Carla Esparza went through all the drama that was The Ultimate Fighter.

As she prepares for her first title defense at UFC 185 vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Esparza (10-2) isn’t about to get caught up in a verbal cat fight.

“It’s all good, talk, talk, talk,” she said following open workouts earlier this week (thanks to for the quotes). “In reality, I do my talking in the cage, and when I win that fight, that’s all the talking I’ll need to do.”

Esparza said Jedrzejczyk told her during a face off that she was “gonna beat you. Gonna be No. 1.” But the winner of TUF doesn’t think she needs to try to match her challenger with words.

Esparza dominated her way to becoming the first-ever UFC female strawweight champion, besting Rose Namajunas in the finals. She was also the Invicta FC champion prior to joining the UFC.

Being one of the main figures of the 115-pound division, Esparza isn’t quite sure what her real star power is yet.

“I just want to be recognized for the fighter I am and the skills that I have,” she said. “That’s what really matters, and I think whenever someone comes out with all these great performances, that just comes with it.”
