UFC strawweight Paige VanZant feels the sky is the limit for her inside the Octagon.

The 21-year-old earned a decision victory over veteran Felice Herrig Saturday night at UFC on FOX 15, improving to 5-1 in her career and 2-0 with the UFC.

“I was the underdog, I was supposed to lose,” VanZant said. “It’s a huge victory for me and I’m still in shock.

“I had God in my corner and an amazing camp.”

VanZant controlled Herrig with her wrestling and used effective ground strikes to dominate. The two had several near-submission holds locked in, but that was all the offense Herrig got off.

“I’m nowhere near peaked and I’ve got a lot of work to do,” VanZant said. “I’m here for the fun of it and I’m so thankful.

“I can’t believe I made it through that fight. It only goes up from here.”

Originally, VanZant was cast on The Ultimate Fighter with Herrig and the other strawweights, but due to her age – she was 20 at the time – she was not allowed to compete. Instead, the UFC signed her to a fight contract.
