If it came down to it, and the numbers were right, Chad Mendes would fight Team Alpha Male leader Urijah Faber inside the Octagon.

But, as far as Mendes is concerned, he is hoping things play out differently.

Mendes is viewed as the top featherweight in the world to not be wearing the title, as he has lost twice to champion Jose Aldo. The titleholder is set to defend his belt vs. Conor McGregor later this year, and “Money” is hopeful that a third meeting with the Brazilian is in the future.

“Ideally Aldo beats Conor, and I get in there and get to make Aldo-Mendes 3 happen,” he said, during a recent interview with Submission Radio. “You know I truly believe that it’s me and him (Aldo) at the top of this division, and I think with the fight in the states, and like I said (if) I change a couple of small things, I win that fight and I’m the new featherweight world champion. So yeah that ideally would be perfect for me.”

However, there is a chance that the UFC decides to make a different fight next for Mendes. That would be Faber, who is scheduled to face Frankie Edgar next.

“I mean it would have to be a pretty damn enticing offer, but yeah I’d have to sit down with Faber and kind of pencil things out and talk about it,” he said. “But money talks and that’s what we’re in this businesses for. So you know I’m not ruling it out, but the money is going to have to be pretty damn good.”

Mendes is coming off a victory over Ricardo Lamas.
