Korea is no stranger to the mixed martial arts (MMA) scene, for years its fighters have thrilled audiences with their consistent displays of uncompromising determination and raw talent, achieving spectacular victories all across the globe. Now, UFC makes its Korean debut with a highly anticipated live event on November 28 at the Olympic Gymnastic Arena in Seoul. For the first time in UFC history, Korean athletes will have the opportunity to defend on home turf against a series of tough international opponents while their nation cheers them on.

Headlining the inaugural Seoul card is the proudly half Korean, former UFC lightweight champion “Smooth” Benson Henderson (22-5, fighting out of Glendale, Ariz., USA). Henderson, born to a Korean mother and American father who served with the US Army in Korea, will seek to not only make a mark in his ancestral home, but to also send a statement to the welterweight division that his successful debut was no fluke.

After a fourth round submission victory against Brandon Thatch, Henderson will be looking to add another big name to his resume on his way to becoming a contender for the welterweight belt. Standing in his way will be Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal (29-9-0, Fighting out of Miami, USA). A long time veteran of the sport, Masvidal recently returned to the welterweight ranks with a show stopping knockout of Cezar Ferriera.

A second straight victory against Henderson will solidify his return to the welterweight rankings.

Asian Superstar and UFC Veteran Sung Hoon “Sexyama” Choo (14-5-0, Fighting out of Osaka, Japan) returns to active duty after his victory last year over American Amir Sadollah. Backed by an army of passionate fans, Choo hopes that their support will propel him to victory over Brazilian Alberto “Soldier of God” Mina (11-0, Fighting out of Hong Kong, SAR), an undefeated jiu-jitsu black belt who hopes to continue his 11 fight winning streak.

All eyes are on Korea and expectations are high for the inaugural event. It’s all hands on deck as Korea’s warriors step forward to make their nation proud. Dong Hyun Kim, inarguably one of Korea’s most successful mixed martial artists, is joined by his fellow countrymen; Do Hoo Choi, Yui Chul Nam, Tae Hyun Bang, Dongi Yang and Hyun Gyu Lim as they face off against an international array of opponents.

Making her mark in what is often considered a boys club in Korea, Seo Hee Ham (15-6-0, Fighting out of Busan, Korea), is the country’s first and only female UFC fighters. With few contemporaries, Ham often trains with male fighters such as Dong Hyun Kim. UFC FIGHT NIGHT: HENDERSON vs. MASVIDAL will be her second UFC bout, where she will face off against Hawaiian striker Cortney Casey (4-2-0, Fighting out of Maui, HI, USA).
