Vicente Luque grew up in nearby New Jersey, so fighting at UFC 205 Saturday night in Madison Square Garden was a dream for him.
And the 24-year-old made sure to leave his mark.
Luque kicked off the FOX Sports 1 prelims with a first round knockout of Belal Muhammad, earning his fourth consecutive victory since a loss to Michael Graves.
“I had two-and-a-half weeks notice and had to cut 30 pounds, but no matter what, I was going to make it,” he said. “I want to thank God for the opportunity to be here and to give me the strength.
“This is New York; I couldn’t say no.”
Luque (11-5-1) kicked off 2016 in July with a submission win over Alvaro Herrera and added a first round knockout of Hector Urbina in September. He also had a submission victory vs. Hayder Hassan to close out 2015.
“To fight here is really special,” he said. “I don’t have words to describe it.”
