Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold returned to form, finishing David Branch Saturday night in the main event of UFC Fight Night 116.
After spending over a year on the sidelines due to injuries and fights failing through, Rockhold stepped back inside the Octagon in Pittsburgh on FOX Sports 1 vs. the former two-division World Series of Fighting champion.
Rockhold landed a takedown and immediately went to work in the second round, putting a beating on Branch until he tapped due to strikes in the second round.
A change in opponent didn’t hinder Mike Perry, as “Platinum” took it right to Alex Reyes in the co-main event. Just over a minute in, Perry hit a knee that took the wind out of Reyes, ending the fight in 1:19.
Anthony Smith scored another key win in his long career, defeating former Bellator champion Hector Lombard via TKO in the third round.
Gregor Gillespie had the lone true submission win of the night, locking in an arm-triangle choke to defeat Jason Gonzalez in the second round.
Kamaru Usman picked up a key win in the welterweight division, landing a knockout punch on Sergio Moraes.
Justin Ledet opened the main card with a split decision, which came after a decision win to conclude the prelims by Olivier Aubin-Mercier.
The night started out with a series of finishes, as Gilbert Burns, Uriah Hall and Daniel Spitz all picked up stoppage wins on the prelims.
After injuries and other issues, the card ended up with just 10 fights in all – all of them airing live on FOX Sports 1.
