It was obvious from the start that Stipe Miocic was a man on a mission.

Miocic successfully defended his heavyweight title Saturday night in the main event of UFC 220, dominating Francis Ngannou inside the TD Garden in Boston.

For the proud native of Cleveland, the win was his third successful defense, setting a new record for the UFC’s biggest division. Miocic also defended his title with finishes of Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem after shocking Fabricio Werdum in Brazil to become champion.

Daniel Cormier successfully defended his light heavyweight title in the co-main event, turning back the upset-minded Volkan Oezdemir.

After running through his last few opponents, Oezdemir was confident coming into the contest. Cormier, though, showed that he remains on another level, landing several power punches before finishing Oezdemir in the second round.

Cormier, who was named champion after last year after the UFC stripped Jon Jones of the belt, is now 20-1 with one no-contest in his career. Oezdemir suffered his second loss in 17 fights, including his first inside the Octagon.
